Starting something new can feel daunting, particularly when you are unsure whether you are fit enough, experienced enough or confident enough to join a martial arts class.
At Kane Academy in Huddersfield, you do not need to arrive as an athlete. You simply need the willingness to take the first step.
Our 10-week beginner kickboxing course costs £199 and is designed to give you a clear, supportive introduction to martial arts. Your course includes a uniform, gloves and gradings, helping you begin with the equipment, structure and encouragement you need to make progress.
Whether you live in Huddersfield, Kirklees, Marsh, Lindley, Salendine Nook, Oakes, Fixby or Greenhead, this course can help you build more than physical fitness. It can help you develop confidence, discipline, resilience and a stronger belief in what you are capable of achieving.
Why a 10-week course works for beginners
A 10-week programme gives you enough time to develop meaningful habits without making your goal feel overwhelming.
Instead of attending one class and wondering what to do next, you follow a progressive pathway. Each session builds on the last, allowing you to practise the fundamentals, improve your fitness and recognise your own development.
A structured course helps you:
- Create consistency: Regular attendance turns training into a healthy routine.
- Develop practical skills: You learn stance, movement, punches, kicks, combinations and defensive techniques step by step.
- Measure your progress: Gradings and instructor feedback give you clear milestones.
- Build motivation: Seeing yourself improve encourages you to continue.
- Train with other beginners: Learning alongside people at a similar stage can make the experience more comfortable and welcoming.
You do not need to master everything immediately. Your goal is to attend, listen, practise and keep moving forward.
What is included in the £199 beginner course?
The course is designed to remove many of the barriers that can make starting martial arts feel complicated.
1. Ten weeks of structured training
You will follow a progressive beginner programme led by experienced instructors. Classes introduce key techniques carefully before combining them into more challenging drills.
This helps you develop coordination, balance, focus and physical confidence at a manageable pace.
2. Your Kane Academy uniform
Your uniform gives you a sense of belonging from the beginning. It also helps you feel prepared and connected to the wider Kane Academy community.
Wearing your uniform can be a small but important psychological step. It signals that you have committed to your personal development journey.
3. Gloves
You will receive gloves so you can train safely and confidently during pad work and suitable conditioning exercises.
Having the correct equipment means you can concentrate on learning rather than worrying about what you need to bring.
4. Gradings
Gradings provide a clear opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and celebrate your progress.
A grading is not about comparing yourself with somebody else. It is about showing commitment, remembering key techniques and taking pride in your development. Your instructor will support you throughout the process and help you understand what you need to work towards.
Build confidence through achievable progress
Confidence is rarely created by waiting until you feel ready. It grows when you take action, face manageable challenges and discover that you can handle them.
Kickboxing gives you regular opportunities to experience this process. You may learn a new combination, complete a demanding round, improve your balance or perform a technique that initially seemed difficult.
Each achievement provides evidence that you are progressing.
Research into kickboxing and boxing-based exercise has linked regular training with improvements in mood, self-esteem, confidence and self-agency. High-energy exercise can also support stress management, while the concentration required during combinations encourages you to stay focused on the present moment. You can read more about the potential benefits of kickboxing in this health and exercise overview.
The result is not simply that you become better at kickboxing. You may also begin to feel more capable in everyday situations.
Improve your fitness without needing a gym background
Kickboxing is a full-body activity. Training can involve your legs, hips, core, shoulders and arms, while also challenging your cardiovascular system.
During a beginner course, you can expect to work on:
- Stamina and cardiovascular fitness.
- Strength and muscular endurance.
- Balance and coordination.
- Agility and footwork.
- Mobility and body control.
- Reaction speed and concentration.
You will not be expected to train at an advanced level on your first visit. Instructors can adapt exercises to your current ability, and you can build intensity gradually.
This makes the course suitable whether you are returning to exercise, looking for a more engaging alternative to the gym or taking your first serious step towards a healthier lifestyle.
The most important principle is consistency. You do not need to be perfect. You need to keep attending and allow your body and mind time to adapt.
Develop discipline and resilience one session at a time
Discipline is not about forcing yourself to be motivated every day. It is about creating a commitment and returning to it, even when progress feels gradual.
A 10-week course gives you a practical opportunity to develop this mindset. You learn to:
-
Turn up regularly.
This creates a reliable habit and helps you take ownership of your goals. -
Listen and follow instruction.
This improves focus and teaches you to respond positively to guidance. -
Repeat the fundamentals.
Repetition builds skill, patience and attention to detail. -
Work through challenges.
Completing a difficult drill shows you that discomfort does not have to stop your progress. -
Reflect on improvement.
Looking back at where you started can strengthen your self-belief.
These lessons can transfer into work, education, family life and other personal goals. You are not only training your body; you are developing the mindset to keep moving forward.

Who can join the beginner course?
The course is suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels because the focus is on personal development rather than trying to be the best person in the room.
Adults starting or restarting exercise
If you have not exercised for some time, kickboxing can provide structure and variety. You receive coaching instead of being left alone with gym equipment, and each session gives you a clear purpose.
Women looking for confidence, fitness and supportive training
Our women’s kickboxing sessions offer a positive environment where you can improve your fitness, learn practical skills and train alongside people with similar goals.
Teenagers developing self-belief
Teenagers can benefit from the combination of physical activity, focus, positive role models and achievement. Kickboxing can help them develop confidence while encouraging respect, responsibility and resilience.
Families seeking a healthy shared activity
Family Kickboxing creates an opportunity to train together, support one another and celebrate progress as a household. Shared activities can strengthen positive routines and make healthy living more enjoyable.
